    Fallout 3: Mothership Zeta

Mothership Zeta is the fifth and last downloadable content for Fallout 3. For the occasion, the team at Bethesda has decided to close the loop by taking the concept of FPS corridor already tackled by the disastrous Operation Anchorage. Except that this time, the theater is that of an alien spaceship, which is a prior to more gratifying. This will be enough to save this expansion, we will find out?

With five extensions in less than eight months, we can say that the Bethesda team has not rested. The problem is that they were of uneven quality and diversely received. Operation Anchorage, the first exit, had even managed to empty its Fallout 3 RPG substance and respond to the community of fans, reluctant to see the editor "do what it wants" of the license. We wondered what could have motivated designers to pay once again in the register of FPS hard. That said, it is true that placing the alien in a spaceship, it was probably difficult to achieve another gameplay. Fallout from the first name, where it was possible, with a score of large chance of hitting a flying saucer stranded in the desert, the subject of UFOs is an integral part of the series. But it has always been implicitly addressed in the form of winks. With his usual immoderation (some say, his lack of subtlety), Bethesda decided to speculate on what was about the story, at the risk of being put off-topic.

As usual, it all starts with the receipt of a distress radio broadcast. By going to the origin of the signal, you come across the wreckage of a strange spacecraft, the one where you (maybe) alien recovered a gun in the original game. Without you allow time to react, a halo of light Wasteland you root for you to board an extraterrestrial spaceship orbiting the Earth. Having undergone a medical examination of the most unpleasant, the aliens you lock in a cell, you have the chance to share with a young woman. At the end of a few exchanges, you decide to implement a plan (although stupid as it should): simulate a dispute to attract your captors. Everything goes as expected: small green men, straight out of Mars Attacks!, Come to make you taste their truncheons energy, but eventually fell under your angry fists. Dressed in a simple and underwear bearing the stolen weapon, you start exploring the strange alien vessel. You do not wait to issue their cryogenic chamber a small group of disparate characters once abducted by aliens: a cowboy evil moon, a soldier completely confused and a Japanese samurai that nobody understands. This promises!

Unfortunately, the gameplay of Mothership Zeta does not offset this context in a friendly manner: you have the right to play like the beast with FPS corridor, very linear in general, which amounts to aliens who come to you and destroy a few reactors to the occasion. Your opponents are not bad, especially since you do not wait to get your equipment, which should be pretty toys from the previous extensions, for they are many against, which makes fighting and quickly repetitive. Your companions in misfortune have different capacities in which they can give you, and some are even likely to lend a hand high if you ask. But the dialogues are often unnecessary and RPG aspect is non-existent. No quests does support the main frame. There remains the possibility of releasing a success in searching the various wings of the ship to retrieve all the logs captives. Note however that if the premises are full of arches care, you keep, unlike Operation Anchorage, the ability to search the still smoldering body of your opponents. This allows you to use the alien technology, starting with the powerful Canon Drone quite difficult to master.

    Conclusion
Mothership Zeta is an extension shorter and easier than the previous two: it takes little more than 4 or 5 hours to complete, if you are not a victim of progress bugs that litter again at the time of finishing. Difficult, however, to be so severe that she was with Operation Anchorage. If the gameplay is irrelevant, it was still fun to walk with the extraterrestrial spaceship. The aliens are well modeled and expressed through an irresistible gossip. The set is for their very thorough and more attractive than usual and it was nice to be aware that this series of maps corridors is particularly suited to such an exercise, we are delighted to move in these places very classy, featuring beautiful lights colored. Do not spoil the extension which is full of movie references (The War of the Worlds, Mars Attacks!, Star Wars Episode 1, Cube, Outland, 2001: A Space Odyssey ...) and funny details that give extending a tone decidedly shifted. Thus, visiting the cargo ship, you'll get a laboratory where the aliens are preparing the invasion of Earth by cloning horses wood probably "removed" after one of their trips. You decide if you're willing to pay 800 MS points just to follow the delirium of a team of developers.

    Re: Fallout 3: Mothership Zeta

Fallout 3 finally aligned on the current standards by posting a rendering worthy of the name. Particularly searched environments are served by the filters and lighting effects are often colored strong impression. Even if we would have appreciated that they are a little more varied graphics, the aliens have a successful design, in line with the mood shifted to the extension.

    Re: Fallout 3: Mothership Zeta

The Mothership Zeta gameplay echoes that of Operation Anchorage: the role play aspect goes by the wayside in favor of an all-action out of respect, although Fallout 3 is showing very little convincing game when it is approached as a pure FPS. Failure to complete quests is actually a worry to the players.
