Not able to Hear 5.1 sound (AC3) after installing windows 7

I am having a AC3 Dolby digital 5.1ch Sound and it was just working great without any problem on windows xp but then since I have switched to windows 7 I am not able to get sound from the 5.1 sound that I am having, I don’t know what is wrong but then I am sure that there is nothing wrong with the speakers as I have checked them out on system running on xp and it is still working great with it, is there anyone who can help me out??

I will suggest you to first try out the below two things:
    • Install the latest version of the driver for the soundcard that you might be having.
    • If that does not help then you can try to install some coded.

Just try it out and then let me know if it is making any difference.

Hey I have tried out installing the latest version of the for my soundcard but then it was not making any difference so I installed some coded as well but then even it did not helped, the other thing that I have noticed now is that when I checked in to the AC3 filter I am able to see the 5.1 indicator but then I am not able to get it on to my receiver via optical port, do you have an idea about this?? Any further help will be appreciated.

I think that since you are having optical out put on the motherboard then there are chances that it might be disabled, I just wanted to know if you are able to get sound from the mini pin sound jacks if you have not checked it then just check it out and then let me know what you get, Other than this you can also check out the for Windows updates and see if it is able to install any driver that might be missing and so. Juts perform the above things and then post back the result that you get.

I think that you are getting my problem wrong, actually I have got a sound card with optical port and that is what I am using and I am not having sound card on the motherboard, there was no problem with the soundcard by now, it all started after installing windows 7, I have checked it out and I am not having any problem in getting the stereo sound but then I don’t know why 5.1 is not working. I have used K coded LITE previously with the win xp and it was working fine with it but then I don’t know why it is not working with win 7

Yes I am talking about that only, I mean that I am having a home theater system receiver which is connected to 5 speaker as you have explained the same above and the situation that I am having is that everything was working fine via the sound card that I am having when I was using windows xp but then since the day I have installed windows 7 I am not able to get sound from the 5.1 speakers, Hope that my situation is very clear to you know, I think that I myself had made it a bit complex, anyways I am sorry for the same, so is there a solution to get it work now?? Any further help for the same will be appreciated.

I think that I have got it know, so you are having a sound card with an optical output but then your receiver is indicating that it is getting 5.1 sound but then it is not playing with the optical output, you did not had the same problem with the XP but then you are not able to get it work with the windows 7, In order to solve the same I think that you will have to change some setting within the receiver, so lets start with the below workaround:
Just right click on the speaker icon and then select Playback which will be on the lower right corner and when you will get a new window in the pop up then just check that the digital output is enabled and select it as default as well, Just go through the below screenshot for more help:

I have tried out the same and the problem seems to have been solved but then not completely, I mean that I am getting the receiver stereo sound as I used to get but then the problem that I am having now is that whenever I am playing any movies or say BLURAY MKV then I don’t know why the receiver is not able to get Dolby Digital stereo, I was not having this problem in the windows xp and I was getting quick response from the receiver saying Dolby Digital and 5.1 sound.can you help me out further with the same, I really want to get it solved somehow.

I think that you will have to try out the other way that is just disable the analog output and then make it default digital port and after that just synchronize it with the sound card and I think that this will probably solve the issue but then if you still have any problem then let me know, I will try to help you out.
