No Sound Card Detected in intel snd-hda ubuntu karmic OS

i am with ubuntu operating system and as there is no need to install drivers i made use of it. i recently upgraded myself to Karmic and there were some problems with sound.
there were several problems as mentioned below.
there was no detection of audio card .
there was a returning of an empty content in the cat /proc/asound/cards
there was no inclusion of audio devices in cat /proc/asound/devices
'Hardware' tab which was present in sound preferences was found to be empty

there was a indication of "dummy output" in the audio tray.

the first solution i can give you is, you should update your Grub when you have a install of fresh Karmic . upgrading of your karmic can solve the issue till some extent.

re: No Sound Card Detected in intel snd-hda ubuntu karmic OS

you described the problem of no recognition of sound and teh possible solution to this could be
Purge alsa-base and pulseaudio,
sudo apt-get remove --purge alsa-base
sudo apt-get remove --purge pulseaudio
sudo apt-get install alsa-base
sudo apt-get install pulseaudio
sudo alsa force-reload

afterward have a reboot and you should be able to see your sound card.
try with
cat /proc/asound/cards
and confirm whether your card is listed or not.

re: No Sound Card Detected in intel snd-hda ubuntu karmic OS

please see to it that after you have listing of your soundcard, have a check over it of proper hearing of the sound.after you have detected the sound confirm of its quality.
If the sound is crapy, you may have to edit the alsa config file:
sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

add comment after this.
# options snd-hda-intel power_save=10 power_save_controller=N

try with adding a new line.
options snd-hda-intel probe_mask=1 model=hp

afterward with appropriate computer model, have a replace of "hp" .
this solution could work in your case.

i could say that the above solutions could work and if it tends to have a failure then , you should have a check of your kernel . so i think those guys with the problem persisting, they should look if they got the right kernel or not as many of the sound and other features relates to the kernel.

re: No Sound Card Detected in intel snd-hda ubuntu karmic OS

i was having a similar problem and to my concern, there was constant showing up of cat /proc/asound/cards at the time of running and there was a dummy output in the gnome sound preferences. so the solution to this is by editing /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf in addition to adding options snd-hda-intel probe_mask=1 model=asus-v1s . it will work in this case if you try with this method.

re: No Sound Card Detected in intel snd-hda ubuntu karmic OS

there is no sound on my Jaunty even after doing all possible methods. as i just know the basic concepts of Linux. it could be better if i turn back to windows. at least after installing the drivers i could be able to get with it. but as it contains in built drivers for this operating system then it would be impossible for me to do it. i don't know whether i should make a upgrade of my operating system or not.

re: No Sound Card Detected in intel snd-hda ubuntu karmic OS

there was guide with which i was trying with but it didn't helped in that case. it told me to upgrade-alsa but failed in my case.
sudo apt-get -y install linux-headers-`uname -r` libncursesw5-dev was looking for the drivers for version 16 of the kernel. and after rebooting to version 14, i noticed the sound working.

re: No Sound Card Detected in intel snd-hda ubuntu karmic OS

if you consider my case where i was having an Intel sound card and there was a similar kind of error . i was having problems after my card was been detected and trying with having a removal and reinstalling alsa and pulseaudio worked. so if you come across similar to this, then you could try with this solution.
