Which operating systems do you use? Well that may help. But the most common thing do do it, delete the contents of /etc/sysconfig/cron folder and /var/tmp folder. These files would be safe to delete, var folder may be cleaned regularly, as it fills up quite often...

Re: Clearing disk space in linux

I'm using ubuntu 9.04 in which i have low disk space... Ok, this was to delete the temporary files like %temp% and temp folders in windows [i am assuming]. How about the softwares that reside on my disk and which i no longer need? Any GUI utility to manage those? If there is no GUI tool, do help me with the CLI. I seriously need to free some space... Thanks in advance...

Re: Clearing disk space in linux

In ubuntu 9.04 you can use the GUI tool known as Synaptic Package Manager [similar to Add/Remove Programs of Windows OS]. Or if you want to use the CLI, you can do that to. Just know the package name along with the version [important] and then from console type :
    Code:
    sudo spt-get remove <package-name-with-version>
    Hope this help you...
