Server 2003 IIS / Install Issue

    Hi,

I am trying to install the FTP component of IIS onto Windows Server 2003 R2. This server is currently running wsus 3. I know the IIS FTP server is garbage but I need it for Wyse WDM. It is actually a prerequisite for install.

What is happening is I add the component through the Add Remove Windows Components and everything seems to install ok. And it simply is not installed. No errors show up in the event log's nothing seems to happen. I can try it as the system administrator or as a domain admin and I get nothing.

Any ideas? I would be grateful.

    1) Please download Windows Server SP2 from the Microsoft website:
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en
(there is a link to 64bit edition down the bottom if requied)

    2) Run the .exe with the /x switch to extract the contents of the Service Pack to your hard disk.

    3) When the Add/Remove programs installer asks you for SP2 files, point the installer to the extracted SP2 contents from step 2

This topic explains how to install Active Directory on a Windows Server 2003 for the purposes of setting up a PKI/Exchange test environment.

To install IIS on Windows Server 2003
    • Click Start, point to Control Panel, and then click Add or Remove Programs.
    • In Add or Remove Programs, click Add/Remove Windows Components.
    • In the Windows Components Wizard, under Components, select Application Server.

    Note:
Selecting Application Server performs a default installation of Internet Information Services (IIS) and includes components that are not necessary for Certificate Services. In most cases, this installation is acceptable for an isolated test environment. However, if you plan to connect your test environment to your production network, consult your organization's security policy to determine which components to install.
    • Click Next.
    • After the wizard completes the installation, click Finish.

I am using sp2 installation media.

And I do know how to install IIS..

    Thanks for the replies though.

Its strange I rolled out another vm off the same template and was able to install the ftp component on it without issue. It seems that it has something to do with the wsus installation, its like its blocking the installation of the ftp server.
