    Multiboot: XP 32-bit / / Vista 64-bit

    Hello everyone!
I would like your opinion on a question that appears often on the discussions, but never gives a clear answer

    Regarding XP 32-bit:
Some applications do not rotate on a 64-bit OS (Example: Assassin's Creed
Windows XP does not include DirectX 10
Windows XP much more convenient and faster (personal opinion!) On the desktop, internet ...
Windows XP 32-bit is limited to 3 GB of RAM

    As against on 64-bit Vista:
Vista takes into account 4 GB of RAM or more.
More recent games running on Vista (directX10, and 10.1 to come)

I therefore reserve a partition for XP: Office, programs, internet, games-who-does-not-turn-on-in-64bits! ...
And a second partition for video games, which look so much better, with 4 GB of RAM (Crysis games and coming on well ...) and directX10.

What do you think? What do these compatibility issues? Is there a way to resolve ? how games like Assassin'creed show "Do not run Vista / XP 64-bit" on the back, while this is more than a year of 64-bit OS came out?

    It is true?
Because the minimum config back, they bring: incompatible with Windows Vista and XP 64-Bit .

it works fine, But my question remains for 3GB of RAM, direct and == X10 +

For DirectX10, it is that Vista and XP uses a different driver.

Basically, to bring DirectX10 on XP, it would make too many changes to do so. Note that the so-called patch DX10 for XP are just adaptations Dx 10 <-> DX9, what is feasible in D3D10 is also feasible in D3D9.

For RAM, it comes from the limit in 32-bit addressing 4GB. Including the fact that it is necessary to have addresses for the devices, RAM is more or less usable, and between 3 and 3.5 GB

I do not understand why they have not updated it all in as much time
What do you think is to put these two systems in multi boot?

I see no objection to install both. Personally is that I do. To see if you really need to have both (there is little on Vista incompatibilities 64)

    Okay!
In the end, (I am a student, Microsoft offers me everything ) I just start with 64-bit Vista, and I could always, if it is a problem, reserve a portion of my Windows XP disc?

To avoid some sense, it is better to install XP before Vista. But otherwise, yes there are no problems.

This is not a problem of letter
Vista and XP overwrites the MBR their installation. The problem is that XP, with the NTLoader does not recognize and can not load Vista.

The Bootloader Vista also runs against by XP.

If you install Vista and XP, you can only run XP (without the Boot Vista).

In contrast, if you install Vista after XP, it will add an entry in the BCD (configuration file of Vista bootloader) to load XP

    Hmmm is fishy!
Will you have a small link that would show me how to install this?

    Thank you in advance

    It's not complicated.

If you install Vista after XP, your nothing to do.

In either case, once XP is installed, you can only start on XP. You then install EasyBCD, you deliver the "Vista Bootloader" from the software, and you add an entry for XP

The need for this, you can come ask on the forum
