I’m using Windows Vista computer with Windows Media Player 11. Whenever I try to use any program having embedded video or audio, it opens windows media player with the following error message:

“Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file.”

I checked Sound devices under control panel, everything seems to be working fine. Then what’s the problem and cause of the error? Somebody please help.

Well it clearly appears like Codec problem. You will need to find out type of video file that is and locate the correct codec. Probably the video is in some WMP incompatible format, hence you getting that error. So the best solution is to download any other video player such as VLC to run those videos.
