For the noise I think 4800 is not very quiet, but not very noisy either, for food in principle yes, unless your other components are very greedy.

With the latest drivers via the ATI Catalyst Control Center, you can adjust the fan speed "by hand".

On my HD4850, I put the fan 'to 45% of its max.
And apparently it well enough, the card does not burn heater (no more than 65 ° C), and does not specifically too much noise.

I have a 4870 and part of the PC at startup, if you well-speed fan, as ThoMas321, it poses no problem at all. That is absolutely correct. Personally, I put it to 35% is a very good compromise between noise and temperature of the card.

About uh, I find that 35% is insuportable
    25% is good (automatic), my card varies between 78 ° C and 80 ° C
