importing an avi codec to movie maker

My kid is trying to learn making Anime Music Videos and for the same we need to import some AVI codec in Movie Maker. This is windows XP system with Windows Movie Maker v2.0. We tried downloading some codecs from torrent but one of them worked. Unless the codec is imported we cannot import AVI files to move maker. If we try the same, we use to get an error message saying:

“AVI cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again.”

Do you guys have any alternate way of any better suggestion for doing this? If yes, please help us out.

    Thank you very much.

Re: importing an avi codec to movie maker

Why you guys just need to import AVI files only in the Movie maker? Why don’t you just convert them to movie maker compatible file format such as WMV? Simply download any Video Converter tool from web and convert the videos then import them to Movie maker and continue your learning. The best I can suggest you is Total Video Converted. Google for the same.
