This may help you out as it sounds like you may have an incompatible file.
If not, post back with your cam make and model, how it is connected to the
pc and what file type you are importing into MM.

Try the link at the bottom of Graham's article that
says, "Useful Programmes".
And, maybe the following article will offer some ideas:
Movie Maker 2 - Importing MPEG Files
http://www.papajohn.org/MM2-Importing-Video-MPEG2.html

It worked! Thank you!
However, now I get this error message:
The file C:\Documents and Settings\jjones\My Documents\My Pictures\PRJ
year1\xmas5avi.avi cannot be imported because the codec required to play the
file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download
and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to
import the file again.
What codec is required and where can I get it? This is a HUGE help! THANK
YOU!!!

It appears you have changed your mpeg file to an avi file?
Most avi files are highly compressed ones, and as there are over 800 avi
file types I couldn't possibly say which one you have.
I would go back to your mpeg file and convert it to a wmv file as per the
instructions on my page, or papajohn's.
