About a month ago I did a fresh install of Windows XP with Service Pack 2. Now after a month I thought to upgrade the same installed Service Pack 3. Ran windows update and installed all recent patches successfully. Installed an updated Antivirus suite. All ok so far. Now its been a week since SP3 and today I noticed that I have not installed Windows Live Mail and Messenger. Hence download Live installer and selected just 3 programs to install, that are Mail, messenger and Picture Viewer. I clicked next and they started installing.
Suddenly all stopped and I received error for all three programs. Tried installing again and the same error. Restarted the system and tried again, but yet the same result. When I checked the Event viewer, this is what I found listed over there:
Event ID ( 5000 )
WindowsLiveSetup ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: wlsetupdiagnostic, windows live messenger, 8.5.1302.1018, oninstallend_ 0x80004002, 12.0.1471.1025, NIL, NIL, NIL, NIL, NIL, NIL.
I though installing these programs individually can help out. Download standalone installer for Live Messenger but that too doesn’t installs. It starts installation but quits without any error or warning. Is this the problem with Service Pack 3? I never had such problems until I was using Service Pack 2. Any idea how the problem can fixed?
Many Thanks.
