Import or copy DVD home movie to Computer

I am having some old home movies in VHS. My friend has helped me to get those all videos on a CD. Now I want to copy them all to my pc and using Movie Maker I want to merge them or split them as per my need. The CD that I got has videos with file extension rm. When I tried to import them in movie maker it is not working. I tried to play those movies in Media Player also but still it does not seems to be working fine. I need some help here.

You will need to download some good video editor in your pc and convert those files to an readable format. Like in avi or mp4. After that only Movie Maker will read the files. RM refers to Real Media file which can be run in Real Player. You can download that from web also. Just get a good video convertor, convert those files and then create your own movie in Movie Maker. That's all. It wil work really fine without any problem.

I got the same kind of issue for .dat files. Movie maker is limited to certain file format. You can download and install VLC in your or Media Player Classic. It reads almost all kind of file format and works really well. There is no issue with the file format here. It is correct that you will need to locate a good video convertor and create the file in the way you want. Without appropriate media convertor you will not be able to create a proper video output.
