    svchost.exe error

This is something critical. My Windows XP was working great until yesterday night when i shutdown but today when i booted up the system i received an erorr message saying "svchost.exe has encountered an error and needs to shut down."

I dont know what went wrong though the PC was turned off whole night. As per troubleshooting i updated my Security suites and Antivirus programs and scanned the entire system but they dint found anything malicious. Here is the error message:

    Error signature
    szAppName : svchost.exe szAppVer : 5.1.2600.2180 szModName : ntdll.dll
    szModVer : 5.1.2600.2180 offset : 00018fea

From Event Viewer, I have found the following entries:

    RE: svchost.exe error

I guess there is any settings either failing to start or needs to be disabled. You will need to check it from Services Applet by running services.msc. Due to such culprit services, it might be tied to some failing device and/or driver.

    RE: svchost.exe error

Thank you very much for the reply buddy. I tried checking all services but i dint found anything wrong there. Nothing is changed since I installed my Wireless-G card couple of days ago. The errors started all of a sudden after two days of that installation. Also i haven't made any other changes to the system after that.

    What to do now?

    svchost error

Svchost, short for service host, is a core Windows system process that handles the processes that are executed from DLLs. Because Svchost provides support to many essential Windows services, there are multiple instances of the executable running at the same time on your system. You must never terminate this program because it is required for secure and stable functioning of your PC. Due to application error, svchost.exe may cease to function and make your system unstable. When the error occurs on your computer, you may receive an error message similar to the one given below:

    “svchost.exe – Application Error

The instruction at 0x009a6f9a” referenced memory at “0x00000000″.

The memory could not be “written”.

Click on OK to terminate the program.

    Click on Cancel to debug.
Try checking this guide on svchost error if you need more detailed steps.
