Sound error HRESULT=0x88780078

I am running Windows XP and also have Sound blaster AUDIGY sound card on a Asus motherboard. The issue is that the audio control settings in configuration screen is grayed and dont allow any changes anymore. After diagnosing I am getting an error message 0x88780078, telling me that no drivers are detected for sound. There are no more sound in my games hence. Any suggestions would be welcome.

You can try to reseat the card first and see if that works. Also try doing a system restore by going into Start > programs > accessories > system tools > system restore. After that check that your sound card works by installing it in another PC or not.
