    stop 0x0000007b error

Can anyone help me? I have a problem with my laptop (Dell Inspiron). All of a sudden my cdrw/dvd drive (Phillips CDRW/DVD scb5265) was no longer working. I uninstalled it from the control panel and restarted and reinstalled it. It still wouldn't work and said the driver was corrupted. I downloaded the driver from the Phillips site, but when I ran the file, it said it couldn't find the device or I didn't have the right to install it. So I unistalled the drive again, ran a spyware and deleted all the infected files, and restarted my computer. When I restarted I got a blue screen with a "stop 0x0000007b" error. I tried starting it in safe mode and it keeps getting stuck at the mup.sys file. I've physically taken the drive cd/dvd drive out of the computer and tried starting it and it still doesn't work. Any suggestions? I can't get past the blue screen to run virus scan or anything, won't work in safe mode, or using last good configuration option, either. There are some files that are for my job, that I need from the hard drive.

    Hello lgroger,

There are few discussions already available on this forum regarding the same error with solutions. I think you should check out them. Hope you will get your fix. Here they are:

    fixed most of the problem

I managed to fix most of the problem. I did a repair install. In order to get it to recognize the disc before going to the blue screen, I had to hit (F2 I think) to get to the setup and change the cd drive to be ahead of the hard drive in the list of drives to attempt to boot from. Then I followed instructions I had found online. Then, windows worked fine and I could get to all my old files. However, the CD/DVD drive still had a corrupt driver. I had to run regedit and delete a specific file that I had read about online (I think it was lower_limits and upper_limits). After a restart, it seemed to work fine because the drive showed up in "My computer" again. It will read data discs and recognize blank cd-r discs and eject on command, but when you click on the blank cd-r icon to try to burn to it, it says "D:\ is not accessible. Incorrect function." Anyone have suggestions?
