    Drive letter allocation

I have a Windows XP desktop with just 250GB internal Hard Drive. As the storage is very less for me, I bought a new external Hard Drive with 500Gb storage. I usually save all my backups on this external drive. Now the problem is Whenever I plug in any other USB device on this system, the original drive letter for my HDD gets changed automatically and that creates while restoring the backup as it says the backup files are not available. This is very annoying.

I request you guys to please tell me how can I assign a permanent drive letter for this Drive? Many Thanks.

Well that is quite simple dude. You can do this by going to disk management. Just right click My Computer > Manage > Disk Management. Or you can click Start -> Run -> diskmgmt.msc.

Once in disc management, right click on your external HDD and click Change drive letter. Now assign any letter you want expect the existing ones. Windows searches for available drive letters from C upwards.
