    MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION - 0x0000009C (0x00000000, 0xBAB44050, 0x00000800)

When I boot up I get the following error on a bluescreen half the time, though it seems to occur more frequently on restarts, and it has occurred once or twice while the computer was running too (it occurred right after I closed a game and returned to desktop)

    MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION
    0x0000009C (0x00000000, 0xBAB44050, 0x00000800)

    I am running the following.

Motherboard: EVGA NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI ATX
    Video Card: ASUS GeForce 8800GTX
    Memory: CORSAIR Dominator 2GB
    Processor: Core 2 Extreme QX6700 Kentsfield 2.66GHz

This is a brand new computer, and I really want to get it working right as soon as possible, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can you try to check the motherboard manufacturer for any bios update and install it if there is a new one. Another thing that you can do is, power off computer and then remove the battery, just search for the Cmos jumper pin and replace the battery and then start the pc. After that start the computer, enter the bios and reset date and time, and choose to load optimum defaults option and then reset the bios for addons etc, then save and exist bios.

The error that you are facing could occur because your computer processor detected and reported an unrecoverable hardware error to Windows XP. To do this, the processor used the Machine Check Exception (MCE) feature of Pentium processors or the Machine Check Architecture (MCA) feature of some Pentium Pro processors. So, to solve this problem follow the steps given here - http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=329284&sd=RMVP

Have you bough your computer assembled or as a kit to assemble yourself? Did you try to contact the supplier as you might be better ask them to rectify this issue and if you try to fix it yoursef then you may invalidate the warranty.

I'll give this a try after keeping an eye out for other solutions, I don't really want to mess with the jumpers if it can be avoided, but if nothing else comes up then I will.

I looked at that when I was trying to figure out the problem via google, and it looks like the most likely culprit for my problem is...

However, I just ran a very long memory diagnostic that turned up nothing wrong, so I am now uncertain.

I assembled the computer myself from parts that I got from newegg.

ok all i know the cause the 9c error is a harware fault but its very rare its a software problem i had a 9c error these couple of days and then my system died and singled out each compnent did memtest etc all clean in the end the culprit was my my athlon x2 4200 processor the TLB or cache was damaged due to overvoltage and i replaced the processor with a spare athlon 3500 its running flawless now :) good thing i didnt order a motherboard as the cpu was the problem not the motherboard would have been a waste of money buying a board lol

so the 9x error is usually overheating/high voltages PSU problem nowadays 400watt PSU is no good mines a 600watt :) faulty ram meaning bad chips or just wear on the stick try changing dimm slots or try another ram stick same one for your board or damaged cpu (common) after 5 years :P my problem was cpu so i find a spare cpu lying around for the same board of course. so why not try it if u dont blue screen with another cpu but same one for your board then your old cpu is dying try this program called HWMonitor from CPUID its free and pretty accurate for a small program is good at monitoring your temps and voltages i use it mostly to see what my nvidia 9600gt chip is running at and my old cpu 3500 single core which im using as my dual core 4200 died :( lol is at 35'c with mx3 thermal paste :P so i agree the 0x0000009c error is mostly to do with a cpu/motherboard fault but known to be RAM issue usually so run memtest download HWMonitor try singling out components test each one at a time if it looks like it fails with the singled out components like all mine did which meant my components were actually fine it was the CPU that needed replacing hope i helped :) later :)
