    Windows opens with error (/e,/idlist,:516:1720,).

Something is went wrong with my Windows XP system. It started today morning itself. Whenever i am booting my system i get an pop up with the following window title and the error message:

    Pop up title: /e,/idlist,:516:1720,

Yes, the title ends surprisingly with the comma. And here is the complete error message in the pop up dialog box:

"Windows cannot find /e,/idlist,:516:1720,. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search."

It use to have an OK button which when clicked the system boots fine. But as soon as i reach the desktop, automatically Windows Explorer gets opened. So i think the problem is somewhere related to Windows Explorer itself. However i tried running System Restore and rebooted the system. Fortunately the error dint appeared since then. So it seems like problem is fixed but i wanted to know what exactly could be causing the problem? As far as i know the last thing i installed was automatic Java update. Was this update causing the problem?

Nope, it couldn't be the Automatic Java Updates. As per me some of your startup program might be creating the problem. If the problem occurs again check if there are any incomplete entries (not resolving a file path) in the startup list. To do the same click Start > Run > type MSCONFIG.EXE and hit enter.

Alternatively you can also download a program called "Startup Tracker". Google for the same. Once installed, launch the same click on "View log" button. It generates a log of startup items. For more assistance you can copy that log here.

Nope, there doesn't seems to be any wrong entry. Everything looks fine. But still if you get the problem, just go through the following steps:

Open Folder Options applet, and click the View tab. Deselect the following option and click OK. "Restore previous folder windows at logon"See if disabling the drive mappings help. Inspect the logon scripts (if any)

I am getting the same error, can you please suggest on how to remove this pop-up?
There are the steps I have performed to get the error.
    1. I removed Windows Explorer and replaced it with custom shell. So, I do not have any desktop on my machine.
    2. Ran the msi installer.
    3. At the end of the installation, I am getting the idlist error with file not found and it pops up the expolore.
    4. I dont want to get this error pop-up.
    5. Can you please provide suggestions to this.

If your logging into AD....and you have a space before your entry into the logon cript field...it can cause errors such as this. It may even give you the <domain controller>\NETLOGON path after the comma in the error.
