My son who is stationed in Japan with the Air Force recently sent me a file with the .xfd extension. I have tried everything I can to view the file but still unable to do so. Can someone tell me how I can view it, it would be greatly appreciated.

Although this is a dated thread, I googled .xfd, as I also had a file from the U.S. Air Force that I needed to open (why do they still use .xfd files) Anyway, I downloaded the PureEdge viewer, and it worked really well. Although it doesn't allow you to convert an .xfd file to a .doc file, or to select all text in the document.
Usually you cannot open this file in Microsoft Word. There are some free reader which can be used for this purpose. Even I recommend you to use PureEdge Viewer for this.
