In a shared service environment, common use test equipment provides researchers with data. The problem is allowing the data to be written to a usb drive while blocking anything coming from the usb drive (viruses, trojans, etc)

What are you trying to prove? There's a possibility that an encryption protocol is in place or a "denial of permission" in place. Check with this link to see if your system is set this way before tweaking the registry. You may need to get some help with the registry settings.

sorry for the long delay... only IT support for dept!
some background:
- I support multiple labs in an educational research center
- there are core services where lab techs can go to utilize equipment to run tests
...the need is to allow users to use their USB device to take the test results while protecting the core equipment by disabling the read function
bottom line>>> we want to send data to the USB device but not allow any virus, trojan, etc onto the core equipment (I know the registry tweak allowing read, disabling write... I need the reverse)
Majority of the virus problem which we receive from anyone are those cases which infect the system through pen drives. So, I found a cool utility called Thumbscrew : USB Write Blocker , you can use this utility to disable writing to your USB drive. Thumbscrew is small handy utility which you can take any where on your pen drive use it to protect your pen drive from viruses on other computer systems by disabling Writing on that system. You can download the same by searcing on google.
