SideBySide, Resolve Partial Assembly failed for Microsoft.VC80.ATL

There is some problems with the Windows XP SP3 configuration. I am not able to start the service for my backup client software. I am getting the below things in the system event log:

    9:16:54
    Event 59
Resolve Partial Assembly failed for Microsoft.VC80.ATL. Reference error
    message: Access is denied.
    ..
    9:16:54
    Event 59
Generate Activation Context failed for c:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL
    Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Binn\sqlservr.exe.
Reference error message: The operation completed successfully.

    9:44:48
    Event 58
Syntax error in manifest or policy file "C:\Program
    Files\Retrospect\Retrospect Client\retroclient.exe" on line 0.

    9:44:48
    Event 59
Generate Activation Context failed for C:\Program
    Files\Retrospect\Retrospect Client\retroclient.exe. Reference error message:
    The operation completed successfully.

I have removed the client software completely, removed directories and cleaned out the registry with Avanquest System Suite Pro and reinstalled the software. Please help.

It looks like the issue is within the back software because I have also faced a similar problem. It was not easy to repair, even when placing it back to factory settings and then remove and reinstall the original version. After dumping it and going to a different backup software, the problem was solved.

Did this problem ever get resolved? I have same problem while trying to get the external USB drive(side by side) to load drivers.

You can try to reinstall the VC++ 2005 run time libraries. I hope that you will be able to find a version that will work with your application.

Re: SideBySide, Resolve Partial Assembly failed for Microsoft.VC80.ATL

    Hi,

I had the same probleme on a w2003 server and installing the VC++ 2005 (sp1 or not) or 2008 run time deosn't fix the probleme.

It takes me one day and a half to find a solution (hopefully my client pay for it ;)) and as i didn't find it on any forum.

if you're in this case take a look in the windows/winSxS folder
if you find subfolders like those :

    x86_Microsoft.VC80.ATL_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.42_x-ww_6e805841
    x86_Microsoft.VC80.ATL_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.4053_x-ww_473666fd

    x86_Microsoft.VC80.CRT_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.42_x-ww_0de06acd
    x86_Microsoft.VC80.CRT_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.762_x-ww_6b128700
    x86_Microsoft.VC80.CRT_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.4053_x-ww_e6967989

    x86_Microsoft.VC80.MFC_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.42_x-ww_dec6ddd2
    x86_Microsoft.VC80.MFC_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.4053_x-ww_b77cec8e
(with a dll in each subfolder)

You can see that the VC80.CRT dll had a more recent version (762) than orthers. That's the problem ! VC++ runtime failed to install other dlls of this version without mention it!

To fix the problem just copy the corresponding subfolder from another PC. You have to obtain :

    x86_Microsoft.VC80.ATL_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.42_x-ww_6e805841
    x86_Microsoft.VC80.ATL_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.762_x-ww_cbb27474
    x86_Microsoft.VC80.ATL_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.4053_x-ww_473666fd

    x86_Microsoft.VC80.CRT_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.42_x-ww_0de06acd
    x86_Microsoft.VC80.CRT_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.762_x-ww_6b128700
    x86_Microsoft.VC80.CRT_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.4053_x-ww_e6967989

    x86_Microsoft.VC80.MFC_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.42_x-ww_dec6ddd2
    x86_Microsoft.VC80.MFC_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.762_x-ww_3bf8fa05
    x86_Microsoft.VC80.MFC_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.4053_x-ww_b77cec8e

(dlls are the same in XP and 2003 server.)
