Error Code:C00D1199 File extension (.mp3) does not match file for

This is Windows XP SP3 running with Windows Media Player v11. Everything was working fine until yesterday. Now whenever I’m trying to play any audio / video in WMP, it gives me an error message saying:

"File extension (.mp3) does not match file format".

When I click on Web Help, it says Error Code C00D1199. I don’t have any idea what to do here. Hope anyone of you can help me with the same.

Windows media player have been always a problem for me hence I hate using the same. The only thing I can suggest you is better try to use other windows media players such a VLC or Audacity. VLC is the best as per my experience.

In case you don’t want to quit WMP then simply re-install it to get the problem solved.
