Missing Local Area Network/TCP IP Problems

    Greetings,

Been looking through the forums and thought I'd make a post and ask for some help.

I'm having some issues with my computer. For some reason, my Local Area Network has disappeared and now, only the 1394 Connection 2 remains. I thought things would be fine and I'd be able to connect to the internet through this, but that's not the case.

First, I tried repairing the connection. No luck, get a 'Failed to query TCP/IP settings' error. So from here, I figured my LAN icon has disappeared.
I've tried reinstalling the drivers for the motherboard (where I'm running the ethernet cord to)
    I've tried resetting the Winsock
I've tried resetting the TCP/IP settings.

I've pretty much scoured the internet and tried to figure this out, but I can't figure it out. Any suggestions?

Have you had a look in Device Manager?
    Click Start>Right-click My Computer>Properties>Hardware>Device
    Manager>Network adaptors.

    Any ? against it?
You can right-click on it>Properties, and see if it is working or not.

    Nothing against it at all.

    OK.
Right click on Network Adaptor, and make sure it is enabled.

Access Device Manager and check to see if the network adapter (other
than 1394 one) is listed. If not, check the BIOS and re-enable the
network adapter, if it is not active.

Hi. I have the same problem.
The adapter is a Realtek RTL8168/8111 PCI-E Gigabit ethnet NIC onboard.
    The board is a MSI P35 Neo2
    OS is XP pro 64bit

I used EI and was reading the news. And then picked another url. It did not
load and XP said the cable was unplugged.
Restartet computer and now the adapter was gone fromDevice Manager. going to
menu: View and pick "show hidden devices" made it turn up again.
Tried to uninstall but XP claim it may be nedded to boot and not letting me
    uninstall.
The adaptor IS enabled in bios. A reinstall of the driver makes no diference
    either.
    Niether does a system restore.

Anyone found out what this is? seen some asking about the same quistion on
the net, but all the advices seem to be "reinstall driver" And it is not
doing anything. Tried that too with success but no use.

Re: Missing Local Area Network/TCP IP Problems

    Update:

I found an old Dlink card I could get 64 bit drivers for and turned of my
    computer.
Switched off the power on it while I installed the D-link adaptor.

When I booted the computer it came out with found new hardware as it should.
But it found two network adaptors. The D-link card and the onboard Realtek
    adaptor.

So now the onboard network is working again.
I am suspecting that all there was needed was to remove the power input from
the computer in the first place.

So if others get the same problem. Start with turning off the computer,
remove the power from it and let it be without power input for a minnute or
    so.

I hope this will help others, as it was not a thing I even considered
trying, and only did because I had a PCI card availebel. But I have no proof
that this will work. But worth a try I think.
