The terminal services service on local computer started and then stopped

I am having a desktop running Windows XP SP2. Don’t know what went wrong with the same since two days whenever I am trying to open Terminal Services, it gets stopped automatically with the following error message:

"The terminal services service on local computer started and then stopped.
Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do, for example, the Performance logs and alerts services.".

I tried comparing it with my another system and it seems ok. This is the key I checked [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\TermService]. Now I don’t have any idea what could be the problem. Can anyone please help me out with this? Thank you.

Hello Bennett. Can you tell me what exact version of Windows XP do you have? I am asking this because as far as i know Terminal Services are usually only available in XP Pro. And as far as Home edition is concerned they use to only have the Terminal Services client which is used to connect to a different Terminal Services "server.'

The problem mentioned above occurs when the Terminal Services service registry values are missing or has incorrect entries. In order to fix the problem there is a file called “termsvcfix.zip” this will fix the problem. You just need to run the utility and restart windows and check if the Terminal Services service starts correctly. Note that this utility modifies the service related registry keys, and so requires administrator credentials to run correctly.

I do not know if the has any possiblity on your system but what type
of video card and which version of the video card drivers?

On my personal home XP Pro, my nVidia based video card, when using the
WHQL 180.48 version of the driver "broke" Remote Desktop completely.
No work-around offered. Then last week, newer 181.20 versions of the
drivers came and these allow Remote Desktop to work.

    Hi guys,

    I had a similar problem on a Windows 2003 server R2, I cannot connect
to it by remote desktop, I tried to check a lot of staff (registry,
dll replaces, sfc /scannow, reinstall the terminal service) but
    nothing solved the problem.
After the "sfc /scannow" I finally can start the service from
services.msc, but I still cannot connect to the server.
aahhhhhhh It's driving me crazy. :-(

    Any help will be appreciated.

    Angelo
