    16Gb USB Stick

I have recently bought a new 16gb usb flash drive stick. It is showing in Windows as 16gb, and I can copy files to it to a total of 16gb but when I try to copy a file that is 5gb then it tells me that the disk is full. I am running Windows XP with SP2, can anyone please help me out? Thanks.

It seems to me that it is formatted as Fat32 and you wont have a 4gb or larger file on it. Fat32 has a 4gb maximum filesize limit for any kind of file. You will need to convert the usb stick to NTFS.

Can you tell us whether your usb drive is formatted in fat32 file format? Normally, the max file size supported in Fat32 is only 4gb and it doesnt support any single files over 4gb in size. You will need to format the usb dribe to NTFS or find a way to keep te files under 4gb in size. This way you can store the files in the drive.

It is very easy to format the usb drive to NTFS, which is not very difficult. Follow the below article on "How to convert a FAT16 volume or a FAT32 volume to an NTFS file system in Windows XP":

You can also use Winrar or Winzip softwares to split the data into volumes by creating a zip or a rar file. Because of file attachments limitations of most mail systems this has been done for many years where files are broken down for something in the range of 2mb each and then sent in peices. Hope this helps you out.
