I get this error whenever I boot Vista x64. It says that the i8042prt controller could not be started. Could it be because I have no PS2 devices connected? I am on wireless keyboard/mouse.

There are certain system file which are responsible for the error. Now there is a small fix that can help you. For that you have to modify the registry settings of Windows. Run Windows Registry and then go on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\i8042prt\Start. In that check the DWORD value. Change the same to 0. Some driver or service is causing the error on startup. Or else check the below link for more errors.

I was having the same issue. I have a wireless mouse and keyboard connected to my system. When I had installed the first time on the reboot I receive the error. I just modified the d-word value as you mentioned above in the registry to 1 and the problem was solved. It looks there is some kind of internal files or drivers that are causing the problem. You need to check properly and verify the error. Check in Event Viewer logs where you can find more information on the error.
