Net use with hostname fails, IP address works fine

I am running Windows Vista on my machine and I have made the Share named as "SHAR" which is defined with IP address 192.168.2.132 and name of the computer USERPC. Normally, the below commands will work:
net use L: \\localhost\SHAR
net use L: \\192.168.2.132\SHAR

But the below command fails (after prompting for the user/password):
net use L: \\bsserver\SHAR
System error 86
The specified network password is not correct

If tried on Windows XP then it gives me "Error 1326 - unknown user name of bad password". Can anyone help me out.

I think that both \\localhost\SHAR and \\bsserver\SHAR are altogether different incase you do these command in a remote computer. Can you try to post back with the result of this command: ping -a 192.168.2.132

I am not doing it on a remote computer, I am doing it locally. I am using the 192.168.2.132 ip address in the computer in which I am doing it and it is defined to correspond with BSSERVER in the HOSTS file. It gives me the ping:
