wireless conenction cancelled, can't connect

I recently bought a new Acer laptop that came with Atheros AR5005G wireless network adapter and Windows Vista installed. I also have a home network created with Speedtouch 580 ADSL router having WPA-personal security. Now the problem is that my new Vista laptop is just not able to connect this laptop wirelessly. I enter WPA password, but it says “Windows cannot connect to the network.”

As few other PCs are already connected with the same router, I don’t think there is any problem with the router. I tried diagnosing Vista but it produces error saying “The connection to xxxxxxxx was cancelled.”

Any idea?

I found something new guys. If I disable the WPA security on my router, Vista connects fine and internet also works. Even it is working on WEP encryption but not with WPA connection.

But this is risky, right? As my neighbors also can use my bandwidth. Any suggestion what should I do now?

Daughter had same problem trying to connect her new Vista Home running through a Speedtouch 580 hub with WEP encryption.Had the same problem connecting (local access only) and tried most of things suggested on forums. Finally resolved the problem by addressing the URL of the router and requesting a reset of the router from the speedtouch data. Can find the url by double left click on the router icon in the networking panel. Once this had been done then hey presto - no problem instant connection. May not work for all but worth a try. But do remember to have your ISP name and password for the reset.
