    file extension?

I’m using Windows Mail as my default email client on Vista. Now as I have huge list of important emails stored on this PC I thought to backup them for security. Hence I download a Backup program but when I run the same, it is just not able to find to any windows mail files.

Can you guys tell me in which file format or what is the file extension of Windows emails? Also please let me know its store location. Thank you.

    Re: file extension?

Usually there are many file extensions of windows mails. Sometime it saves the messages in .eml, .email, or sometime in .nws format. If the backup program is for backing up windows mail, it should read these formats. As far as location is concerned, you can find it yourself with these steps:

    • Launch Windows Mail, click Tools and then Option
    • Now go to Advance, click Maintenance and then click Store Folder.

This is where the emails are store. You can backup your emails from here. Also I don’t think you need any backup third party program programs for backing up windows mails. You can simply copy paste these entire directory, that’s. it.
