    Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool (KB892130) won't install

    ... and, of course, it won't let me check for any other updates until it does.
    I'm running XP Home SR2 with all updates untill 22 December installed OK,
    including this one in August last year that the system now insists needs
    reinstalling.

    It has downloaded, but won't install. It doesn't show at all on the update
    history, so no error message; no failed install icon to check.

    I've tried "http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012" as suggested in an
    old post on this topic, but didn't do anyhting. I've tried it with Zone Alarm
    firewall, anti virus, antispyware all off, still no luck.

    Any other suggestions about cause or solution?

    That appears to have fixed that problem - now I have an issue with an office
    update ... but thats another story & post :-)
