Cumulative Update for Internet Explorer 7 failed to install

I used my Windows update this morning. All of the updates correctly
installed except the following update which failed to install on two tries.
Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 7 for Windows XP (KB937143)
I have Windows XP operating system with service pack two installed.
I got the error code below from the installation of that particular update.
Can anyone tell me how I can properly install the update. Thanks.
    I got Error Code: 0x80242006

937143 has been superseded by 939653, effective 1200 UTC -7 today.

Try checking in at Windows Update again.

Which has been replaced by KB939653 effective for some hours:
    http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../MS07-057.mspx

You may want to retry a search for new updates via Windows Updates
and/or download KB939653 manually, save and execute the EXE afterwards:
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...a-867192b55b53
(assuming you're *not* using Windows XP Pro x64 (64bit) Edition)

Re: Cumulative Update for Internet Explorer 7 failed to install

I tried to manually install after the automatic failed to install, and it too
    failed!
Error was that I was not using IE7 - which I am [V7.0.4730.11co]

    any other suggestions?

Ehm, that looks like a Beta or RC version of IE7 you're still running.
Uninstalling that Beta/RC version via "Software" in the Control Panel,
downloading and installing the released IE7 final and runing Windows
Update once again after that procedure should fix your problem.

    v7.0.4730.11CO or v7.0.5730.11?

Did you try disabling your anti-virus application and real-time protection
provided by any/all anti-spyware applications /before/ you attempted the
    install?

Re: Cumulative Update for Internet Explorer 7 failed to install

I too have the same problem... I shut down all the "real" time protection and
even shut down my Live one care and firewall and it still will not install.
It just states that it "failed to install".

Really? Which Windows Version are using, which update are you failing
to install an which is the error code shown?

Re: Cumulative Update for Internet Explorer 7 failed to install

Windows home XP and it's the KB939653.

It just states that it "failed to install". No other codes. I have shut
down EVERYTHING to try to install this and nothing has worked.

Have a look into the KB939653.log file to be found in the Windows folder.
You can open the LOG file too by typing the following under "Run" in the
Start menu and hit [Enter] afterwards:
    %windir%\KB939653.log

Please copy and paste the *last* 40-50 lines of the log file into your
    reply to this message.

It says that such a file does not exsist.

Pardon, that's nearly impossible in case you don't have a "Cleaner" software
running. If you have one running in the background, stopp it at least while
    installing updates.
