SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME. I HAVE CONTACTED MICROSOFT AND AM AWAITING THEIR
REPLY. I TRIED TO RE-FIND & RE-INSTALL IT = NO LUCK.
IF BILL GATES GETS BACK TO ME, I WILL POST HIS "SOLUTION". RACCOON.

Did you download the update manually and install?

RACCOON: YES, I DOWNLOADED MANUALLY. TIRED OF "AUTOMATIC UPDATES" COMING ON
IN THE MIDDLE OF MY TRYING TO SHUT-DOWN MY COMPUTER - PLUS - THE "AUTOMATIC
UPDATES" SOMETIMES INSTALLED THE SAME UPDATES
OVER & OVER & OVER & OVER AGAIN.

Same problem here. Seems like it's a permissions problem with the registry.
Here's the text from the Event Viewer:
"Product: MSXML 6.0 Parser (KB933579) -- Error 1402. Could not open key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\Msxml2.FreeThreadedDOMDocument.6.0\CLSID.
System error 5. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or
contact your support personnel."
I tried assigning permission to the local Administrators group but that
didn't help.
RACCOON: I JUST HAD A eMAIL RESPONSE FROM 1 OF BILL GATES' "SUPER-TECHS" AND
FOLLOWED HIS INSTRUCTIONS PERFECTLY TO RE-INSTALL THEIR UPDATE. GUESS WHAT?
IT STILL WON'T RE-INSTALL & IS GIVING ME PROPTS
TO RE-INSTALL PRIOR UPDATES. I JUST SENT ANOTHER REQUEST FOR FURTHER
HELP FROM Mr GATES & COMPANY. STAY TUNED. THIS SHOULD BE INTERESTING.

Which Windows version are you running? If Windows XP, which applications
are running permantly in the background? Please stop any of them and try
reinstalling the update (maybe in Safe Mode).
You may also want to check "Method 2" mentioned for IE7 installation
problems which handles insufficent user rights for accessing/writing
registry keys too: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917925/en-us
Bye,

Dear Customer,
Thank you for contacting Microsoft Online Support Service. My name is
Arthur, and I am glad to work with you. For your reference, the case ID for
this service request is SRX1074262809. You can contact me directly by sending
an email to v-30artx@mssupport.microsoft.com with the case ID in the subject
line.
From the problem description, I understand that KB933579 is not installed.
If there has been any misunderstanding, please let me know.
I understand the inconvenience you have experienced. Please be assured that
I will do my best to help you.
This issue can be caused by certain background programs that conflicts.
Please follow the steps below to manually install the update in Clean Boot
Mode.
Clean Boot
================
Let’s disable all startup items and third party services when booting. This
method will help us determine if this issue is caused by a loading program or
service. Please perform the following steps.
1. Click the Start Button type "msconfig" (without quotation marks) in the
Start Search box, and then press Enter.
Note: If prompted, please click Continue on the User Account Control (UAC)
window.
2. Click the "Services" tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box and
click "Disable All" (if it is not gray).
3. Click the "Startup" tab, click "Disable All" and click "OK".
Then, restart the computer. When the "System Configuration Utility" window
appears, please check the "Don't show this message or launch the System
Configuration Utility when Windows starts" box and click OK.
Note: Temporarily disabling the Startup Group only prevents the startup
programs from loading at startup. This should not affect the system or other
programs. We may still manually run these programs later.
Please download the update from the following website.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en
Please double-click to install.
How to return from the Clean Boot state
==================
1. Click the Start Button type "msconfig" (without quotation marks) in the
Start Search box, and then press Enter.
Note: If prompted, please click Continue on the User Account Control (UAC)
window.
2. On the "General" tab, click "Normal Startup - load all device drivers and
services".
3. Click OK. Click Restart when you are prompted to restart your computer.
Is the issue resolved?
If it persists, please help to collect Windows Update log for research.
WindowsUpdate.log
============================
1. Press the Windows key and the R key at the same time, type: %windir% and
press Enter.
2. Locate a file named "WindowsUpdate.log" and send it to
v-30artx@mssupport.microsoft.com
Please be aware that there may be another file named "Windows Update.log". I
am requesting the file without a space in the middle of the name.
Please try the above steps and let me know the results at your earliest
convenience. If there are any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me.
I look forward to your reply.
