Try this - show hidden files, folders, and system files:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tuto...l62.html#vista
Using Windows Explorer, navigate to
WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution
Delete ALL subfolders of SoftwareDistribution
[NOTE: this will also delete the update history shown on the
Windows/Microsoft Update sites]
Close Windows Explorer.
Download the latest version of the Windows Update Agent and save it:
For x86 or 32 bit
http://download.windowsupdate.com/v7...gent30-x86.exe
For x64 or 64 bit
http://download.windowsupdate.com/v7...gent30-x64.exe
When the download is complete close the browser and any other open programs
Now install the WUA
Revisit Windows Update to see if the system can successfully update

Try this it worked for me
Re-register the Windows Update DLL with the commands below:
1. Click on 'Start', choose 'Run'. In the open box, type cmd, and then click
'OK'.
2. Type the following commands. Press 'ENTER' after each command:
regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wups2.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll
Try Updating Windows.

thks. perfect work !!
This works perfect. Thank you very much. But, on Vista Ultimate teh commands:
regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll, wucltui.dll, and wuweb.dll give errors. If anybody
else tries this method, don't worry about the errors. It still works.

Unfortunately both did not work for me, with the first method I am unable to delete "data store" and "logs" folders and also cannot download the new x64 link successfully.
In method 2, I am I get an error message with regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll and regsvr32 wucltui.dll both "Failed to Load" the others were a success.
