I have the same problem. The yellow install shield keeps coming back, and
when I try to install the KB928365 update, it tells me that the update could
not be installed. I dont get any error code though - just the text "Security
Update for Microsoft .NET Framework version 2.0 (KB928365) failed to install."

I got the same error message, after reboot after reboot, still same error,
with no error code.
Is there a service that should be stopped, can this be installed in safe mode?

Hi.
I just ran dotnetfx.exe and chose "Repair".
After that I could install the update without problems.
Hope this helps.

In my case, the problem with the KB928365 update was solved by doing the
following:
1. Download dotnetfx.exe
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
2. Run dotnetfx.exe
3. Choose Uninstall
4. SHUT DOWN (dont just reboot) your pc
5. Run dotnetfx.exe and install
6. SHUT DOWN (dont just reboot) your pc
7. Goto Windows Update and install the updates
(this will include the KB928365 update)
8. SHUT DOWN (dont just reboot) your pc

I belive that there is no need unistalling net framework 2.0. From add
remove programs click change/remove and then click repair. Reboot if
nessesary. Then install the security Update and I think everything it
will be ok.
If dotnetfx loads but does not open in W2kProf, is this a clue to problem??
