Cannot Update oin Vista Ultimate

Hi!
Since I have installed Vista Ultimate on my PC, I am not being able to
download/install updated from microsoft update or widows update and am
getting the error "Modular Installer has stopped working" and the following :

anyone encountering the same problem? please help...

I also have been unable to load any updates from Microsoft after installing
Windows Vista Ultimate (clean install, new HDD) and Windows Update Service
stops with the following error message:

Hope this is useful but I have followed all help offered on Microsoft
website and as yet have had no success.

Privileged instruction fault. Overlay? Bad jump?
Better clues in drwtsn32.log? (e.g. Stack Back Trace)

If you just installed the OS you should probably consider the hardware you have
attached and the drivers you are using to support it. For example, there are
known issues with similar symptoms (e.g. random crashes) due to older
incompatible drivers. Is there any hardware attached that you could temporarily
do without (e.g. as a test) such as FingerPrint Reader, Printer, Scanner, etc.

That a breakpoint code I think. Wouldn't there be some additional diagnostic
say in the Event Viewer to explain it?

WU NG is not the best place to try diagnosing these crashes.
