Error code 0x663 - Visual Studio 2005 Service Pack 1

when trying to update Visual Studio 2005 Express Edition C# using Microsoft
Update, I'm keep getting the error code 0x663.
Rebootet the machine, tried again: Same result.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find something searching the internet.
Does anybody have any pointers on how to proceed finding the cause?
Any help would be highly appreciated.

I got the same Problem with Visual Studio 2005 Professional Editon. W2K with
SP4. Any suggestions?

Try searching your log files for the decimal equivalent, 1635

E.g. here is what net helpmsg 1635 (in a cmd window) shows:

<cmd_output>
This patch package could not be opened. Verify that the patch package exists
and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is
a valid Windows Installer patch package.
</cmd_output>

If that doesn't yield a clear enough clue the other thing that I would try
is doing a manual install and enabling any additional diagnostics that way
--typically by adding a /verbose switch to the command line.

I used the cleanup tool, re-installed .NET, then verified my
installation using the guide and tools from Aaron Stebner's WebLog:

The update worked after my re-installation. Hope this helps,
