    Error Code 80070057 with Vista Business (final release) when Updat

    I just did the upgrade (not a clean install) from XP Pro to Vista Business
    (final release not beta). Windows update is showing 7 updates to install
    KB930857, KB905866, KB928089, KB929427, KB929777, KB931573 and KB929735.
    First is Important, 5 are recommended and one is optional.

    I'm running a 3GHZ dual core with 2gb ram on a machine built in the last 4
    months, there were no issues reported by the Vista upgrade advisor before
    upgrading.

    Windows Update comes back with failed messages and error code 80070057 when
    trying to install the updates, either all at once or any of them individually.

    Also if I try to individually download any of the updates direct from the
    Microsoft web site and bypass the Windows Update. It does validate my
    machine and allow me to download the update files. Then when I run the MSI
    installers they also fail with the same 80070057 error message.

    How do I resolve this? I've searched online and the whole MSFT site and
    forums for this error code and can't find anything related to this situation.
    Vista's help messages and listed error codes are worthless and do not
    mention this error code.

    Convert the lower half to decimal? 0x57 == 87

    Then in a cmd window enter: net helpmsg 87

    <quote>
    The parameter is incorrect.
    </quote>

    I suspect more information about your error would be available
    in your logs from the context of the code in them. Ref KB902093

    BTW did you try searching "online" also for the code with a 0x prefix
    (to denote that the string of numbers is hexidecimal not decimal)?
