If the log on your system is the same, then please let us know what
    antivirus/security suite is installed.

This is the only mrt.log from original file. When on microsoft updates and
they want you to download a new removal tool, this is when we get the error
and blue screen. I tried even to not download that update and still when
installing any updates you get blue screen. with same error code.
We have CA Anti virus suite up to date, NO VIRUSES, SPYWARE/ADWARE OR
    TROJANS ON THIS PC.

I even took a restore point back to October and still same problem.
Yesterday I did try an updated ATI graphics driver update file version
6.14.10.6359 and still same problem. Turned down CPU usage to low and enable
off in properties thinking it was a problem but to no avail. There are no
updates on Dell's site for Bios or driver of ATI graphics.

Installing ANY updates is causing BSODs or just the MRT ?
Has this issue been going on since June/July ?
Has the system been scanned with any Rootkit detectors ?

Suggest you download the latest version of the MRT from the below link :
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Save it, do NOT run it. Delete MRT.exe from WINDOWS\system32

Restart the system to Safe Mode and run Windows-KB890830-V1.24.exe
It should run in Safe Mode.
Let us know if you could run it in Safe Mode and then recheck the
    mrt.log once more, please.

Re: KB890830 software removal tool will not install

Installing ANY updates is causing BSODs or just the MRT ? YES
Has this issue been going on since June/July ? SINCE August
Has the system been scanned with any Rootkit detectors ? NO , but
everything else we have in toolkit which is very many. Thanks, will try that
    next.

Suggest you download the latest version of the MRT from the below link : I
already had done this before and saved file and ran software same problem.

The only thing had not tried is fully deleting not just renaming and running
in safe mode, will try this.

    thanks, will keep you posted.

Both are causing BSODs ? Rookits can hide themselves as .sys files and
cause all kinds of 'hardware-like' issues.
Also suggest you run at least 2 rookit detectors from the below list:

    Rootkit Revealer
    http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sys...tRevealer.mspx

AND, *one* of the following :

    F-Secure Blacklight Beta
    http://www.f-secure.com/blacklight/try_blacklight.html

    AVG Anti-Rootkit 1.0.0.13 Beta
    http://www.freewarefiles.com/downloa...rogramid=22524

Please keep us up to date on the issue, Regina.

Windows Malcious Software Removal Tool October 2008

    Hello:

I was having a similar problem with Vista-32 and so I ended up downloading the original Tool from Microsoft directly, and was able to install it successfully. The Windows Update help was no help.

Hope it works for Xp, but I haven't tried it yet with an Xp boot.

    Regards,
    E.L.
