wuauclt.exe application keeps crashing with fault address 0x4607c848

Hi All:
I have a problem with the Windows Automatic update application error
"wuauclt.exe", this application keeps crashing with the follow error...

"Faulting application wuauclt.exe, version 5.8.0.2469, faulting module
unknown, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x4607c848"
also
"Fault bucket 211344957"

Happens at startup and every 2 seconds after closing the fault down.

Action Taken.
1.) Disabled "Automatic Updates" Service in Computer Management Services
2.) Renamed folder "c:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution" to
"c:\Windows\xSoftwareDistribution"
3.) Cleared cache in IE6
4.) Cleared Temporary files
5.) Reset IE to default security settings
6.) Deleted C:\Windows\System32\wuauclt1.exe &
C:\Windows\System32\wuauclt.exe files (BTW These files keep coming back by
themselves).

I have disabled "Automatic Updates" in Services and the wuauclt.exe
application keeps loading and crashing repeatedly
Started about a week or 2 ago.

Can anyone shine a light on this problem?

Hi All:
Rebooted a 2nd time, turned Autoshutdown on from control panel this time
instead and problem has dissappeared.
Memory problem?

I,,m having a problem with wuauclt too .the message says sorry wuauclt.exe
has to close. I cannot use Automatic updates. I,m also a novice to all
this. I hope someone can help.
