KB922770 problem error 0x80070643

I've tried to download several times. All of today's updates installed fine
except this one. From windowsupdatelog: Anyone have a suggestion? Thanks

I have this very same problem and so far no answer to it. Maybe someone here
knows more about this mess than I do. This kind of thing has happened before
with net framework and now I do not remember what I did to fix it. I just

I had the same problem. Had to uninstall Net 2.0. and all Net security
updates (I had one), reboot computer, then reinstall Net 2.0 and then
download and install the latest security update. This worked for me.

KB922770 isn't installing for me either. When I go back into Windows Update,
it shows that it hasn't installed (error code 0x669 - whatever that is), but
it isn't available to try again. When I checked Add/Remove Programs, it
appears to be installed. However, when I try to remove it, the process just
hangs.

FYI: Uninstalling/reinstalling .NET 2.0 didn't help me. The KB922770
update still failed to install.

I too could not install the update KB922770. Even worse, I couldn't uninstall .net framework 2.0 from the Add or Remove software in control panel. I received an error telling me that the patch package could not be opened. Browsing on Microsoft's website I came across a reference to the Windows Install Clean Up tool. I downloaded it and used it to remove .Net framework 2.0. I then went to Add or Remove software, where there was still an entry for .Net framework 2.0. Clicking on this allowed me to reinstall it. Finally, I ran Windows Update again, and KB922770 installed correctly. I hope this may be of some use.

Hi gang. Just fyi. I took an additional step. I uninstall .Net 2.0. Rebooted.
I have a copy of Microsoft .Net 1.1. I installed it then rebooted.

Then was able to install Microsoft .Net 2.0 with the October .Net security patches.

I CALLED AND WAS CALLED BY Microsoft support perhaps because this has been going on since around Christmas and I've a medical issue with paralyasis of my left hand; the tech originally assigned to this hung up the phone after holding on and going through solutions; the final MSFT tech said that despite techs stating that this was the "first time" they had heard of this problem, my tech said he was well aware of this problem being posted all over Google and told me and asked if i knew how to disable getting notice of this update and suggested I just disable this one as it is not an important one to have installed; that's from an upper level technician; while he took the easy way out since frame work is such an important intrusive function (like update search, I believe,) I believe it's a problem that Mr. Frosty is just not addressing since the ultimate fix is too complex for a downloaded update from the web in "one stop"...if you read through some of the solutions, they have you check out the version number of the "Windows Installer file; in the System 32 folder of your OS and actually don't offer any specific solution to either remove it or add another one; my suggestion is to wait until they either come up with another update file or someone actually has a definitive fix that sounds more logical than the ones I've seen before you end up breaking the "framework" program since it's critical to much of the functionality of the XP operating system at this point.

senior level MSFT technician finally said to disable getting notice of this update and not worry about installing it; that's a first time I've heard of this solution (but I believe judging from the number of google entries) this is a problem for MSFT as they list an 800 number to contact technicians free 1-800-936-5700; they will not charge you (or shouldn't for update problems) but I wouldn't hold out for any useful solutions; once you establish a case number, they'll even call you back with (no solution, to date..this has been going on for me since early December '06;
