    Pro.msi

    Hi Guys,
I've tried looking through some of the post to see if I could find the answer but to no avail!! Does anyone know where the PRO.MSI is stored? I've got the Office XP Pro disc but can't find PRO.MSI!! I'm trying to install Office XP SP3 and half way through it asks for the disc, once the disc is in it asks for the PRO.MSI but all I can find is the PRORET.MSI and that no good!!
Any help will be grately appriciated!!

    Cheers

You receive an "Error 1706. Setup cannot find the required files," error message :
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/298021/en-us

    Visit http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm and scroll down
to Item No. 171 (right column) and click on "Office XP 1706 - ProPlus.MSI Fix".

All my requests when installing Office XP has asked for the PROPLUS.MSI.
What are you trying to install?

This may help, if not post back:

How to determine whether you have a Retail or Enterprise edition of Office
    XP

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290134/

When prompted, have you tried modifying the pathname to your PRORET.MSI
    name?

    Re: Pro.msi

According to the knowledge base we have the retail version of office xp.
I tried to modify the pathname a couple of times and it kept saying that it wasn't a valid installation file. Thank you!!

Have you tried posting in the Office Update NG instead?

    PRO.msi

    Hey Hambo,

I had exactly the same problem with no access to my original XP CD, nor a system restore point to get rid of the damn SP3.

Credit 'Steven Hawkins' for this fix which worked for me...

Inspection of the Event Log gleaned the information that Excel failed to
find 'XLStart', and it turned out that simply adding an XLStart folder to
the Office\ and Office10\ folders list, immediately created the personal
XLStart folders for each user, and enabled Excel to update to SP3 with the
    other programmes.

Having said this, running the Office Update from scratch still gets stuck at
'where's PRO.MSI', but at least the major components now seem to be working.

    Regards,
