    RE: [Error number: 0x80245003] - Keep getting this!

    This worked for me,
    1. Rename the Update temporary folders.
    ===================================
    1. Click Start, Run, type: cmd and press Enter. Please run the following
    command in the opened window.

    Net stop WuAuServ

    2. Click Start, Run, type: %windir% and press Enter.
    3. In the opened folder, rename the folder SoftwareDistribution to Sdold.
    4. Click Start, Run, type: cmd and press Enter. Please run the following
    command in the opened window.

    Net start WuAuServ

    2. Remove the corrupted Active X control
    =====================================
    1. Open Interent Options
    2. On the General Tab choose Settings under Temporary Internet Files
    3. Then click on View Objects.
    4. Right Click WuWebControl Class and choose remove
    5. Right Click MuWebControl Class and choose remove
    6. Delete the file c:\windows\system32\wuweb.dll
    7. Delete the file c:\windows\system32\muweb.dll

    The above steps will help us remove the ActiveX controls for Windows Update
    and Microsoft Update. Then will download a new one to instead of the
    corrupted one.

    Is this a hopelessly naive question? How does something like thos get
    corrupted in the first place?

    When a new one gets downloaded, is there any way to be sure that it is
    ok?

    Hey guys, im gettin this problem, but what do you mean by 'Rename the Update temporary folders' ? are these stored somewhere other than the temp directory?

    this really didnt help because its still not lettin me update and is still
    coming up with the same error

    I had the same problem and installing the above exe fixed it. It may help to
    know how to get in the scenario ;) I ran a Windows XP SP 2 repair
    installation and first noticed my IE7 was missing so re-installed it then ran
    Microsoft Update. It looks like i had a mixture of IE6 and IE7 components.

    I was looking down the barrel of a clean new install till I found this...
    really AWESOME!!!

    RE: [Error number: 0x80245003] - Keep getting this!

    For any of you who try the steps below, and still have the problem. I found
    an alternative solution that has solved this issue on 3 computers already.
    Since I banged my head against the table for so long on this issue, I thought
    I'd put the solution that helped me here.

    I downloaded the wuredist.cab from ->
    http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa387285.aspx

    Inside that cabinet file there's a xml file that has the links to download
    the new version of the windows update agent ->

    <architecture name="x86" clientVersion="7.0.6000.374"
    downloadUrl="http://download.windowsupdate.com/v7/windowsupdate/redist/standalone/WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe"/>
    <architecture name="x64" clientVersion="7.0.6000.374"
    downloadUrl="http://download.windowsupdate.com/v7/windowsupdate/redist/standalone/WindowsUpdateAgent30-x64.exe"/>
    <architecture name="ia64" clientVersion="7.0.6000.374"
    downloadUrl="http://download.windowsupdate.com/v7/windowsupdate/redist/standalone/WindowsUpdateAgent30-ia64.exe"/>
    <MUAuthCab RevisionId="6"
    DownloadURL="http://download.windowsupdate.com/v7/windowsupdate/redist/standalone/MUAuth.cab"/>

    I downloaded the x86 version WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe and installed it.
    Installing this new version fixed the problems and solved the error
    0x80245003 issue.

    brilliant! that fixed it (I had done a Windows Media Center 2005 repair [from
    the CD] myself too and then installed IE7 since it had placed IE6 myself too
    before MS update and Windows update both broke - had tried all other
    alternatives and MS kb suggestions with no luck)

    after getting
    http://download.windowsupdate.com/v7...gent30-x86.exe
    (other suggestion I had seen [from MS people] was pointing to an older
    update agent [20 instead of 30] !!!)
    and installing it, then visiting MS update site seemed to progress fine, but
    at some point it said that some components needed for MS update were missing
    and kept on saying that even after I selected the radio button option for it
    to get them. After several loops of seeing this message, I added to trusted
    sites zone (was www.update.microsoft.com - I already had update.microsoft.com
    to trusted sites) and pressed Refresh at the page that was saying about the
    missing components to see it finally say Automatic updates are on and had a
    button saying successful or something like that. Then went on into the site
    and pressed "Custom" to see the download dialog get newer update components
    or something and then ask for restart. I guess after the restart it will show
    me the rest of the updates, since now the site seems to be ok again

    I might have enabled WSUS beta in the past (before the XP repair
    process), maybe that's the real cause and not just the repair process itself
    (maybe combined)

    RE: [Error number: 0x80245003] - Keep getting this!

    Dennis, you are a life saver, been banging my head against the wall on this
    one with many other suggestions that got me further but did nto work like
    this one.

    ONE NOTE: I had to reboot after installing the x86 version of ver. 3 of the
    windows update before the error subsided, it did not ask for a reboot after
    installation...
    Seems like common sence but I thought I'd throw it out there for the next
    victim...

    I had just setup a RAID and forgot to install the drivers for it so I had to
    repair my windows installation. Of course many windows core files were
    overwritten to older version with the re-install and Automatic updates were
    affected. I followed these steps and it worked. The only thing to note is
    that internet explorer should be closed when attempting this to make sure the
    ..dll's are not being accessed.

    I see that the post is a bit old by computer standards, but you solution
    still works (thank goodness).

    This isn't working for me. The WU and MU classes are not in the folder they
    should be, possibly because I'm working on a PC that I have had to use system
    restore on so some file maybe missing. I can achieve all the actions you
    have given except deleting these.

    If you have any more suggestions, it would be appreciated. I had the same
    problem last year at about the same time that the Windows Genuine Advantage
    toold was automatically download, but the WGA furom "experts" are insisting
    that my problem is not withe the WGA tool but with the Active X control.

    They could be right as my PC is crashing within 2 minutes of downloading
    anything from the MS update site, even after a system restore.

    I cant find the objects you want removed in steps 4,5... I was able to find
    and delete wuweb.dll and muweb.dll thru asystem dos box....but my
    General/History-Temp Files/View Objects buttons in IE7 open a folder which
    contains two Active X controls called ... Microsoft Data Collection Control &
    Shockwave Flash Object....am I looking in the wrong place or are we looking
    at two different versions of IE?

    Hope you can help..?

    A simpler solution worked for me!

    delete the WUWebControl Class file in Downloaded Program Files directory

    that done it without doing anything else for me

    Yeah knowing that IE needs to be closed is very helpful.. I used Procex.exe
    to find out what had the dll's locked it would have been eaiser if it had
    been in that post

    RE: [Error number: 0x80245003] - Keep getting this!

    There is no WuWebControl Class, MuWebControl Class,
    c:\windows\system32\wuweb.dll, c:\windows\system32\muweb.dll to remove under
    viewed objects.

    What can be done now?
