    Error displaying page error [Error number: 0x80090305]

    I am running a windows 2000 server and using IE 6. When I try to run windows
    update I get the following error message:
    The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are
    trying to view. The options provided below might help you solve the problem.

    Now i've seen other people with similar problems but no one with the same
    error code 0x80090305.

    I've tried clearing my old files and that hasn't worked.

    I get the exact same thing with W2000 and IE6. I did a successful update.
    Then selected to sign up for the new Windows Update service. That screen
    died and when I went back to check for more updates I get nothing but the
    error screen.

    I get the same error screen on one computer at home running WXP with IE6. I
    did one update, went back to check for more and get the error.

    :(

    Wrong. When did you last search? Where? How?

    FWIW I answered Pavol at the beginning of the month since his post
    at least included some details. A simple search using the web interface's
    search tool finds it using just the error code.

    The code has something to do with your secure protocol support.

    http://docxp.mvps.org/WU5-ERR.htm
    <quote>
    0x80090305 -2146893051 SEC E SECPKG NOT FOUND The requested security package does not exist

    </quote>

    In Pavol's log I found that the code was issued in relation to this URL

    https://update.microsoft.com/v6/Clie...ce/client.asmx

    Note the protocol prefix. I suggested that he try using that URL
    manually to see if it produced any more clues.

    You could also try using that protocol prefix for the initial access to WU
    and see what your symptoms are. Etc.

    There are some tips on the V6 troubleshooter which can be found
    using https as a search term. Try any suggestions you find that way.

    Also in Internet Options, Advanced tab, Security section please verify
    that you have all 3 secure protocol options checked. (Use SSL... etc.)

    You could also try this troubleshooter:

    <title>KB813444 - How to troubleshoot situations where you cannot
    complete MSN sign-up or connect to SSL secured (128-Bit) Web sites
    by using Internet Explorer in Windows XP</title>

    Good luck
