    Hi there I'm despareate,
I nstalled SP2 on my xp Computer and since then I have not been able to
update windows from the windows update site. I keeps asking me to install
the latest version of Windos update. after I click install it goes only up
to 60% of the installation and then I get the Error number: 0x800B0100.
    thanks for any help =)

    Hello Nino,
    1. Click Start, click Run, type "msconfig" (without the quotation marks) in
the Open box, and then click OK.

Review the "Services" Tab entries. If you have *ever* disabled Win XP
    Services, do review those.
These services have to be enabled:

Automatic Updates (if you plan to get Service Pack from MS site at Windows
    Update)
    Background Intelligent Transfer Service
    Cryptographic Service
    Remote Procedure Call
    System Restore Service

    2. Using Windows Explorer:
    At folder C:\Windows\System32 , if you have a sub-folder called * Catroot2 *
    (not Catroot) rename the
folder to CR2OLD. Better yet, delete all the contents of CATROOT2.

    0x800B0100

Click Start, select Run, now type in:
    regsvr32 wintrust.dll
    Press Okay

Try Windows Update again, if that doesn't work then -

Click Start, select Run, now type in:
    CMD
(Note this opens the command prompt windows)

Now type in the following (noting to press Enter after each line)

    net stop cryptsvc
    ren %systemroot%\system32\catroot2 oldcatroot2
    net start cryptsvc

Reboot if necessary and try Windows Update again.

Have you recently downloaded and installed anything that placed itself in
your task bar? Try to either uninstall it or do a System Restore to a time
before the software download or when you know you could do Windows Update
successfully. Then try to update Windows again.
