Hi
If you are behind a Microsoft ISA, this one might be relevant:
XP Windows Update Error 0x8024402C / 0x80072f78 when behind a
Microsoft ISA server
http://www.electrosonics.net/technot...0x8024402C.htm
If the above is not relevant, here are some other things to try:
When searching for available updates on the Windows Update site, you
receive the 0x8024402C, 0x80240030 or 0x8024502d error.
http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...cleid=26&ln=en
You might need to use proxycfg.exe (see link above) to either set
or remove a proxy server configuration:
Open a command prompt (Start/Run and then "cmd.exe" without the
quotes").
Run this command to see what proxy configuration WU uses:
proxycfg
If you don't have a proxy, you will need status
Direct access (no proxy server).
If it reports anything else, to set direct access:
proxycfg -d
To get more help on proxycfg:
proxycfg -?

This has been driving me CraZy, that my new laptop wouldn't update BUT - I found a work-around =)
I was thinking about it.. the MS forum kept sayng it didn't like the proxy settings - even though I use Comcast and there ARE no proxy settings - so here goes..
I went to a page that listed FREE proxy servers - and finally found one that worked:Proxy server 209.55.33.101 port 80 - set my explorer LAN Connection, proxy to that and Microsoft Update WORKS, no 8024402C error.
Use that as a temporary setting because Google search doesn't like it for instance =)
