What to do? Anyone have any ideas?

Perhaps try to uninstall all versions of .net framework?

I've been having this same problem for weeks now, the sp's you can't install
won't install on my machine. I'm getting paranoid, wondering if some hacker
has sent me malware which might cause this. Please help anyone who knows
    what might be going on.

Re: Fixes fail, will not install

When installing updates using Windows update or Microsoft Update you may
    receive Error 0x643 or 0x80070643 (23 Oct-09)
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976982

    =====================

Step #1 => Before doing anything else, write down what .NET Framework
    versions are currently installed:

How to determine which versions of the .NET Framework are installed and
whether service packs have been applied
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318785

Step #2 => Now see Resolution Method 2 in...

When you try to install an update for the .NET Framework 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, 3.0,
or 3.5, you may receive Windows Update error code "0x643" or Windows
Installer error code "1603" (ignore the title, if need be)
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923100

After running the appropriate/needed tool, (re)install all .NET Framework
versions manually using the download links on the page then run Windows
Update manually to install security updates for same.

NB: If you remove .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 using the tool, reinstalling .NET
Framework 3.5 will also install .Net Framework 2.0 SP2 and 3.0 SP2; then
Windows Update will offer .NET Framework 3.5 SP1.

IMPORTANT! => If you remove .NET Framework 3.5 SP1, reinstall your .NET
Framework versions in the following order:

    1. .Net Framework 3.5, then...
    2. .Net Framework 1.1, then...
    3. .Net Framework 1.1 SP1

    NB: KB923100 references this page:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archi...30/611355.aspx. Please read
ALL of it as well as the related page
    http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/pages/8904493.aspx before using the .NET
    Framework Cleanup Tool.

Step #3 => Check-in at Windows Update and install any critical security
    updates offered.

I did Step 1, I did Step 2.... can't even get close to Step 3.

As soon as my system restarts, HP Instant Share uses Windows Installer to
try and "configure" itself... it's recognizing that .net Framework is gone,
and unfortunately needs it to run (HP passport).. so we end up in this
continuous loop of installation and internal software error pop-ups.

Because HP Instant Share is hogging up the Windows Installer... I can't
    install the 3.5, 1.1 and 1.1 SP1 files that I downloaded..... it's happened
on 3 restarts in a row.

So I went to my system restore point and went back to yesterday. HP Instant
Share isn't trying to re-install/configure anymore but I got a ton of other
    errors....

"Fatal Execution Engine Error - 0x7927f206"

"hpqthb08.exe - Common Language Runtime Debugging Services - Application has
generated an exception that couldn't be handled. - Process id=0x15a0 (5536),
Thread id=0x15a4 (5540) - Click OK to terminate the application - Click
    CANCEL to debug the application"

I clicked CANCEL and got another error -->

"No Debugger Found - Registered JIT debugger is not available. An attempt to
launch a JIT debugger with the following command resulted in an error code of
    0x2(2) - Please check computer settings - cordbg.exe !a 0x15a0 - Click on
RETRY to have the process wait while attaching a debugger manually - Click
CANCEL to abort the JIT debug request"

I clicked CANCEL and another error followed -->

"backupnotify.exe Common Language Runtime Debugging Services - Application
has generated an exception that couldn't be handled. - Process id=0x1168
    (4456), Thread id=0x116c (4460) - Click OK to terminate the application -
Click CANCEL to debug the application"

I clicked OK..... then came here to report. I also went to Windows Update
via Internet Explorer and hid all the .NET Framework updates in the meantime
because auto-update keeps trying to install it and it's just not working.

I suggest you uninstall HP Instant Share until such time as you've got the .NET
    problems sorted out.

I found a simple fix if c:\ drive is low on space.
    1 Create room on C:\
2 Delete all files can from C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local
    Settings\Temp.
    3 Reboot
    4 Run the update again

    Here is the correct answer:

    Uninstall KB976569 - requires a reboot
    Install KB974417 - requires a reboot
    Reinstall KB976569 - requires a reboot

Evidently, 974417 needs to be installed before 976569.

    What?

Oh - I see now. Things are easier to answer seven (7) months later, I
suppose. Would be good if you included some of the original post so that
people have some clue what you are talking about too...
