    Tdm Service error reports

I just did the Patch Tuesday updates on one of my computers (a Dell laptop
running WinXP SP3). Everything seemed to work fine, and I restarted the
computer, as instructed. Soon after the restart (and, I think, after I ran
Secunia PSI), a minimized box showed up. It's titled "Microsoft Error
Reporting," and it says: "Some unexpected errors have happened to software
you recently used. You were not asked to send these error reports at the
time they occurred." I'm supposed to send the reports now.

There are about 8 reports, the earliest almost a year ago and the latest
tonight. The application for all of them is "Tdm Service," and the error
description is "Application Error." I can't make any sense of the error
    message, even after Googling it.

Is this something important that I SHOULD send to Microsoft? Is the message
    truly from Microsoft?

    Thank you!

    Jo-Anne

    Jo-Anne,

The message is from Windows rather than from Microsoft per se, but is probably
legitimate. It is saying that a particular piece of software - the Tdm Service,
which based on a quick bit of research appears to be legitimate software related
to hard disk encryption on laptops - has crashed.

Eight crashes over a period of a year is not particularly worrying, so unless
you are experiencing other problems I wouldn't worry about it.

Sending the information to Microsoft may help them to identify and correct a
fault in the Tdm software (or perhaps in Windows) and is unlikely to represent a
risk to you. However, if the idea concerns you, don't send it - it's entirely
    voluntary.

    Harry.

Thank you, Harry! That's a relief. If the message is still there today, I'll
go ahead and sent the reports.
