I am still not able to to the update
When I try to uninstall Framework 1.1 says installation source is not
available. It also shows 1.1hotfix, 2.0SP2, 3.0SP2 & 3.5SP1
How can I get this update to download.?
I tried to download.net framework 1.1, but not sure I did the correct
thing

I had the same problem with the KB953297 security update for Microsoft .NET
Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1. I tried to uninstall .NET Framework 1.1 from
the Add/Remove Programs in Display Panel. However, I got a message the the
source location could not be found which is usually indicative of a Windows
Installer problem. I used the Windows Installer CleanUp utility to uninstall
..NET Framework 1.1. I then reinstalled .NET Frameword 1.1 and .NET Framework
1.1 SP-1. After that KB953297 installed without any problems.
Not quite. Version 3.5 SP1 includes versions 2 and 3, but does not include
version 1. If you have applications that need version 1, it will need to be
installed separately.

Alternately you could try Ed Pyle's suggestion, which looks to be sound.
Name me one program using version 1 or 1.1. In fact version 1 was
released for the benefit of programers who want to create Windows user
interface. There were no programs making use of this or actually
requiring it to run efficiently as everything was within the
applications making use of this. From version 2, it was possible to
streamline the process and to make smaller applications but requiring
dot net to make it work because all UI was within the dot net (not in
applications).
But like everything you will no doubt name ONE application making use of
1.0 or 1.1.
Within the next few weeks there will be version 4 to support Windows 7
but it will be backward compatible to support old XP and Vista
applications. Though, insiders tell me that version 2.0 will become a
collectors' relics when dot net 4.0 comes out and it won't be supported
any more.
Apart from Visual Studio 2003 itself, I have no idea. But if you aren't running
any applications that use 1.1, there's no reason for it to have been installed
in the first place.

I ended up calling MS. After 1hour 40 min yesterday and
1hour 50 min today, they finally got the thing fixed.Not sure why
getting .net 1 to uninstall was so hard for them and me.
I tried to uninstall .netframework 1.1 and it uninstalled but I still have
the 1.1 hotfix on there and I tried to uninstall that and it did not work.

Uninstalling and reinstalling may be overkill provided you are willing
to do some diagnosis to find out what is causing the error symptom.
Lots of words lots of links, what we really need is just one simple solution.
My computer now takes Thirteen minutes to close, surely Microsoft, can
publish a clear and concise answer to this problem.
The KISS principle should apply here.
I did all the high tech ideas. but what worked, was that i reinstalled .net
framework 1.1 and it's sp1 restarting between. resulting in th file
installing. i also noticed that in the end, the .net framework 1.1 hotfix
was gone. so good luck all .
You can use the the .NET Framework cleanup tool, see the following links:

It automates the task of removing and cleaning the various versions of .NET
on your system. If need be, you can use that tool, then start over from
scratch to install whatever version of .NET you want, onto a clean system.
:) As for the 1.1 hotfix uninstall, I suspect it requires .NET 1.1 to be on
your system in order to uninstall the hotfix. So you can just remove it
from your Add/Remove Programs List if it refuses to run. HTH .. :)
did you try disabling automatic updates? Right-Click on My Computer,
then click Properties - then go to the Automatic Updates tab, check the
"Turn off Automatic Updates" at the bottom, then click Apply to enable your
choice. :)
If you do not get MS09-061 installed, your computer remains vulnerable to

I have the same problem but don't want to go through all the hassle of
uninstalling/reinstalling. Does anyone know what the danger is in just not
installing the fix?
everyone seems to be having the problem with XP, but I'm experiencing it with
Vista X64. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling .Net 1.1, but still no
luck. Yes, we need help from Microsoft. the Windows Update message is
annoying me.

I had the KB953297 problem for weeks and the "Solution--Unistall .Net
Framework 1.1 ..." worked for me.
I am running Vista Home Premium SP2 32-bit, with Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5
installed, and I keep getting this same pesky failure error on this update.
I've been researching the suggested fixed, and quite frankly, I don't want or
have the time to fool around with this baloney. Any idea if an upgrade to
Windows 7 will fix it?
I don't blame you for being fed up with this absurd .NET updating issue.
Strongly suggest that you contact MS for *no-charge* support in getting
the update installed and so that fully realize the scope of this issue.
If Users would contact MS for the no-charge support at the very least,
MS will then be forced to recognize how widespread these .NET updating
issues are.
If Users choose not to contact MS then this charade will never end.
It's *abundantly clear* that the data that the Windows Update Product
Group receives from systems when they update is completely inaccurate
when it comes to updating .NET Frameworks.
