Wibdows (KB973879) causes systen crash (Blue Screen)

    I installed 4 Windows updates this morning (KB973879, KB973074, KB970653,
KB972036) and the system crashed when it was trying to boot back up after
completing the installation of the updates. One time it booted up but then
crashed when I tried to open IE. Booted up in safe mode with networking,
googled Windows KB973879) and found a blog entry where someone else had
experience the same problem. Went to the Control Panel | Programs and
Features | View Installed Updates and then selected the KB973879 and
uninstalled it. Seems to be working fine now.

I did the exact same thing and it worked for me too.

We wrote up a guide (with pictures) to fixing this problem

Stick with Method #1: Using System Restore to "undo" an update is not a wise
    thing to do!

You would think Microsoft would have learned from their past botched update releases and that they would properly test their code before it is made public. If I was to write code in an application I was developing and it caused a computer to crash, I would soon become a member of the un-employed.

KB972036, which along with KB973879, 'are no longer available'.

See 'Known issues after you install the update' here:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/972036

The updates have been 'revised' and are being pushed out again:
