Error Code 57 in Windows Update KB951847 component will nto instal

Vista 32 bit clean install. Error in installing Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update (KB951847) x86

Any ideas?

1. Before doing anything else, write down the .NET Framework versions which are already installed:

2. Now see Resolution Method 2 in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923100 (ignore the title). After running the appropriate/needed tool, (re)install
all .NET Framework versions manually using the download links on the page.

You will have to properly remove .net and then install it back. Then only this error will be gone. Or else you will keep on getting popup on the screen. For that first download a fresh edition of net framework from the official site. Then download .net framework cleanup tool. Download this tool and run this to wipe out .net files completely. Once done you can simply run the fresh installation and reboot your pc. Skip any update notification if you are getting through windows update. You can try going with the manual method which is more easier.

Looks like dot net components are corrupted in your system due to which you are getting the issue. You will have to go ahead with a complete wipe out. System restore is also not going to work here. So here you can try running the clean up tool first. But if you are still facing a bit issue with dot net update then you might have to go ahead with the repair setup. That is done through windows installation disc. You have to boot your system with the same and hit R to launch the repair setup. This will resolve the issue and will give you more proper output.
